YouTuber from California Given Prison Sentence for Deliberately Crashing Plane

A former Olympic snowboarder from California, Trevor Daniel Jacob, was sentenced to prison after obstructing the investigation into a plane crash that he had been involved in. Jacob had filmed the incident as part of a stunt for a YouTube video, in order to promote a wallet from one of his sponsors. Jacob pled guilty to the charge of destruction and concealment of a tangible object with the intention of obstructing a federal investigation. Trevor Daniel Jacob, a former Olympic snowboarder from California, was sentenced to six months in federal prison on Monday for obstructing a federal investigation. He had previously pleaded guilty to destruction and concealment of evidence with the intent to hinder an investigation.Jacob had allegedly chartered a plane on November 24, 2021 in Santa Barbara County, parachuting out as he took footage for a YouTube video, which was intended to promote a company that sponsored him. Two days after the event, the National Transportation Safety Board opened a probe into the incident, informing Jacob that the wreckage must be preserved. However, when investigators asked him for the location of the plane, Jacob allegedly misled them over the course of two months.By December of 2021, Jacob and a friend had hired a helicopter to take them to the crash site. Upon recovering the remains, Jacob dismembered the plane and disposed of the parts. The video he had recorded went up on YouTube with footage from the parachuting and the cameras he had stationed on the plane.The investigation was led by several federal agencies, including the Office of Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Transportation, the Federal Aviation Administration and the NTSB, in coordination with the U.S. Attorney's Office.
