Lightcap penned the memo to express the surprise over the board's decision and stated that several conversations have taken place with the board to figure out their reasoning. He added that discussions and potential solutions regarding the way ahead are still being explored, but that the business is still in a strong position and Microsoft is a dedicated partner. He emphasized that "the board's decision was not made due to any misbehavior or issues with financials, operations, safety, or security/privacy."
Brad Lightcap, OpenAI chief operating officer, addressed the sacking of CEO Sam Altman in a brief memo to the employees on Saturday. Lightcap expressed that everyone was shocked by the news and that he has had numerous conversations with the board to try and comprehend their decision. In his statement, he got across that the board's choice was not caused by any misdeed or anything related to their financial, business, safety, or security/privacy habits. He further detailed that there was a failure in communication between Altman and the board. He also shared that the discussions and possibilities regarding the course ahead are still in progress and that the company remains solid. Microsoft's commitment to them as a partner is still present, he said. He concluded his memorandum by showing support for Mira in her new part as CEO, and ensuring everyone that they are doing their best to work out the circumstance and will at the same time furnish updates.
