Meta has unveiled a range of new AI tools and celebrity-backed digital assistants that the CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, was keen to showcase alongside the Quest 3 VR headset and Ray-Ban smart glasses. He highlighted the Emu computer vision model powering the AI tools, in the hope of giving the metaverse a jumpstart.
Meta has recently unveiled AI tools and digital assistants endorsed by celebrities, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg hoping that these will spark the development of the metaverse. Zuckerberg showcased the AI software, as well as the company's Quest 3 virtual reality headset and Ray-Ban smart glasses, at Meta's Connect conference for VR developers, which took place at the firm's headquarters in Menlo Park, California. Soon, users of Facebook's chatting applications such as WhatsApp and Messenger will be able to share digitally-created stickers, taking advantage of the success of technologies like ChatGPT.
Zuckerberg demonstrated a new feature that will allow users to input a prompt such as "pizza playing basketball" and generate a humorous, cartoonish sticker of a pizza slice holding a basketball. Furthermore, upcoming AI-powered editing tools on Instagram will allow users to edit their photos with prompts. For instance, a childhood photo of himself could be modified to put him in an ugly sweater or with blue hair. His demonstration also included a transformation of his dog Beast to resemble an origami figurine.Using its Emu computer vision model, Meta can create images in around 5 seconds. While this may not be fast enough in the eyes of his kids, Zuckerberg deemed it a great speed. Going forward, Meta's chat tools will be able to generate realistic visuals similar to the Midjourney AI app on the Discord messaging service. and the metaverse
Meta's new AI digital assistant, ChatGPT, is able to generate comprehensive replies to text inquiries and access Microsoft's Bing search engine for data that requires real-time information. To better represent their digital characters, Meta has teamed up with prominent personalities such as Paris Hilton, Mr. Beast, Kendall Jenner, and Padma Lakshmi. For instance, someone can ask Lorena (the celebrity Padma Lakshmi) about travel-related topics and get advice accordingly, or even play Dungeons & Dragons with a narrator – the rapper Snoop Dog – that functions as a dungeon master. The company plans to eventually let users create their own digital assistants, but they will take the time to trial the feature with selected businesses beforehand. Mark Zuckerberg expressed that the firm's investments in AI are directly related to the construction of the metaverse, the futuristic digital space costing Meta billions each quarter to develop. To demonstrate this, Meta worked with EssilorLuxottica to devise the Ray-Ban smart glasses costing $299 and out on Oct. 17. They are enabled with AI software to identify landmarks and translate signs when viewing diverse objects.Previously, Mark had faith that the popularity of smart glasses would only be attainable once holograms and similar displays were optimized. However, he now realizes that AI is "just as important" in making them alluring.
