Eddie Wu, new CEO of Alibaba, asserted to employees on Tuesday that the company needs to focus on the user and be driven by artificial intelligence. Wu stressed the importance of investing in AI. As it attempts to restore development of the business, the cloud unit of Alibaba is aiming to become a frontrunner in the AI field in China. Wu remarked that if they do not stay current with the AI revolution, they will be overtaken.
Eddie Wu, the new CEO of Alibaba, informed the employees on Tuesday that in order to keep the Chinese tech company moving forward, it needs to be "user first" and "AI-driven." During his first three days on the job, Wu has pushed for the e-commerce firm to have a "start-up mindset" as a way of regaining growth following a tumultuous period. He also emphasized how Alibaba must evolve with the world's progression and "reinforce" its investment in three key areas in order to remain successful. Wu made this announcement in a letter to the employees, as well as taking the opportunity to inform them of Jack Ma's confidant taking over the cloud computing business.
Wu is advocating a different approach for Alibaba--seeking out the most open and collaborative relationships, even with competitors, rather than trying to keep users within its ecosystem. He also pointed out that the company should invest in artificial intelligence, which its cloud unit is attempting to position itself as a leader in within China. This is done, he explained, by transforming the use cases into applications for AI technology and driving user experience and business models through tech innovation. Wu added that, without keeping up with the changes in the AI era, the company risks displacement, and that they should also invest in globalization. Lastly, he mentioned that they are looking to promote younger talent, with those born after 1985 and 1990s forming the core of business management teams in the next four years.
