Programmers and company personnel who don't specialize in technology can inquire of Amazon Q, which can be interfaced with a selection of business software programs. This tool can be purchased for $20 per person monthly; however, much of its features are already accessible as part of a trial version.
On Tuesday, Amazon unveiled a new chatbot named Q at the AWS Reinvent conference in Las Vegas. The product was created to compete with Microsoft and Google in the productivity software market, following OpenAI's launch of their AI-based ChatGPT chatbot a year prior. Depending who you ask, Q might be inspired by the iconic James Bond or Star Trek characters.
A preview of the chatbot can be accessed for free. Businesses will have to pay $20 per user per month for the tier, or $25 for the developer and IT worker version. Copilot for Microsoft 365 and Duet AI for Google Workspace cost a similar $30 per user per month.
Q has the capacity to guide users in understanding AWS, troubleshooting, cite documents, and even make changes to source code. It can also communicate with over 40 different enterprise systems like Microsoft 365, Dropbox, Salesforce, and Zendesk, among others. Files and other documents can also be uploaded to Q.
The Futurum Group's Steven Dickens stated, “AWS Q will be a game changer for AWS customers who have a plethora of service options, oftentimes overlapping to navigate.” Deepak Singh, an AWS VP, also noted that admins will be able to govern what Q can discuss.
Amazon has tried to create end-user applications in the past, but have failed to create a hit in any category, from supply chain management to customer service. Despite this, most of AWS' income still comes from core computing and storage services.
