Alex Jones and Andrew Tate Reunite at X

Alex Jones, a conspiracy theorist, has rejoined X - previously Twitter - after Andrew Tate, an arguable public figure, shared a message there. Tate's message lauded both Jones and Elon Musk of X, saying: "We're back!" A poll conducted by Elon Musk resulted in 70% of approximately two million participants selecting to have his account reinstated. Jones is best known for asserting, incorrectly, that the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting was a hoax. He was told to hand over $1.5bn (£1.32bn) in compensation to the bereaved relatives of the people affected, when they were held to be suffering from hurtful persecution and death threats as a result of his deceptive statements. Jones, the founder of the Infowars conspiracy theory website, had his presence eradicated from other major platforms, such as YouTube and Facebook. He was prohibited from utilizing Twitter in 2018 because of his infringement of the website's regulations concerning abusive conduct.. Andrew Tate, whose account was reactivated last year following an earlier ban, is an alleged misogynist influencer who is currently being tried in Romania with accusations of rape, human trafficking and setting up an organised criminal group to sexually exploit women - something he denies. He also took to social media on Saturday to stand up for Jones, calling him a "hero". In October 2022, Elon Musk acquired X, and disregarded demands from some of Jones's followers to restore his account. In one post, he drew on his experience of losing a 10-week old baby in 2002 to explain why he refused to revert the ban, expressing: "I am wholly unsympathetic towards those who use the passing of innocent children for their own benefit, for political gain or to elevate themselves." On Saturday, Musk put forward a query to users to decide whether Jones should be allowed back - which is the same thing he did for former US President Donald Trump's account a month after Musk became CEO, and his account was eventually reinstated. Mr Trump has only made one post since his ban was lifted. Following Musk's post, Jones urged followers to cast their ballots in favor of him not getting prohibited by sharing a video on the internet. Jones's account was brought back into effect a few hours after the poll concluded. Replying to a user on Saturday, Musk vehemently rejected Jones's assertions on Sandy Hook, additionally questioning: "Do we subscribe to a philosophy of free speech or not?" He stated that X would be negatively impacted financially by the decision, yet he felt that adhering to principles was more important than any monetary consequence. Musk has taken a more and more optimistic attitude toward free speech online while he has been in control of X. Last month, he declared that major advertisers attempted to "coerce" him when they forbade X owing to worries regarding anti-semitic content published on the platform - taking into account a statement by Musk himself, which he later made amends for.
