Adyen Executive Selected to Oversee Plaid's European Operations

Plaid, a financial technology company in the U.S., has exclusively informed CNBC that it has appointed Brian Dammeir, Adyen's global head of unified commerce, as its head of Europe. Dammeir will succeed Ripsy Bandourian, whose role involved leading Plaid's operations in Europe, at a crucial juncture for the firm. Plaid, a U.S. financial technology firm with a current valuation of $13.4 billion, has hired former Adyen executive Brian Dammeir as its new head of Europe. Dammeir's prior role at Adyen was global head of unified commerce, which involved unifying different payment experiences – online, in-store, and app-based – in one platform. He is set to take over from Ripsy Bandourian, who spearheaded Plaid's expansion throughout Europe. At Plaid, Dammeir will focus on the company's move into open finance – an evolution of open banking that seeks to innovate in all areas of finance, including payments and lending. He is excited about the potential of this innovation, saying: "[W]hen we think about Europe, it's about how can we be more relevant globally … how can we find more and more use cases outside of our starting point in fintech." Ripsy Bandourian, a former Booking.com executive, was appointed Plaid's first head of Europe last year. She is leaving the company to "pursue other passions," according to a company spokesperson. Dammeir has worked with Plaid's executives for over a decade. Before making the move to Plaid, Dammeir held positions at Adyen's North American and European offices for over eight years, starting in product, then transferring to general management and strategy across North America and Europe. Payments have been a major focus for Plaid, with payment volumes on the platform having increased by more than 90% in 2023. The firm is now looking to work with partners beyond just fintechs, such as Monzo, Checkout.com, Public, and Moneybox.
